Microsoft windows embedded product PID & sysprep for production image

There are two different PID for different windows product.

1.The PID which Applied from Microsoft windows embedded team. Needs to sign CLA with Microsoft first.. --- XPE, WES2009, WES 7 (WS7E, WS7P), WE8S, PPOSREADY 7, Industry 8.1.

2. The PID which got from purchased Microsoft sticker -- Win 7 pro, win 8 pro, win 8.1 pro.

The production image needs to do "sysprep" to let each production image with unique SID. Below is something need to take care.

XP, win 7 series product. -- if added official PID, the windows will activate automatically.

1. The image could be "audit mode" then let customer customized the image to add software or other hardware device driver, the windows will be activated after add official PID which applied from Microsoft. Below products are this type. -- WES 2009, WES 7.  If PID is trial ID, the image needs to do "sysprep" (with sysprep UI or using sysprep command). The windows trial period is 30 days or 180 days. It depends on which kind of PID you add.

2. Needs to sysprep no matter to add official PID or trial ID -- POSREADY 7.

3. Needs to sysprep -- win 7 pro.

win 8.1 pro, industry 8.1 (retail & pro depends on which PID you add) & WE8S series. The image needs to activate windows with normal network after sysprep finished..

1. WE8S needs do "sysprep" then backup image. If added trail ID, the image needs to activate windows after sysprep, otherwise, the image will reboot every 20 ~ 30 minutes. In the bottom of windows desktop, you will find the character "The windows license is expired", after activate windows with normal network. It will show "~ 180 days". If you add official PID which applied from Microsoft embedded team. The system will not reboot but you still need to activate windows.

2. Win 8.1 pro OPK -- needs "sysprep" you could skip PID page (30 days trial period) or key in the 29 characters PID which inside the Microsoft sticker. After finished sysprep, you need to activate windows with normal network.

3. Industry 8.1 -- needs to "sysprep" & activate windows. Retail or pro version PID depend on which type of sticker you purchased from Microsoft. After sysprep, you need to activate windows. If you don't want to key in PID for each system, you could use sysprep command (sysprep /oobe:unattend.xml /generalize) then add PID inside unattend.xml. Remember to delete unattend.xml in the synchronous command. Otherwise, your PID could be in blacklist.
